Career and training choices

This summer we’ve teamed up with Ealing Connexions to offer career, employability advice, support and solutions for our young customers; aged 15-25 years old.

Our Employment Support and Learning and Development teams are working together to offer network events about working in housing and the construction industry as well. You’ll get to meet some of our current apprentices and find out more about their roles too.

This year we’re going virtual, with all our workshops and events being available online for you to sign up to.

What’s available 

There are four online workshops with Ealing Connexions and two Catalyst networking events available. Each workshop has 20 spaces available and our networking events are open to 20 participants.

You’ll need to book you place on each workshop and event in advance using our online Eventbrite booking form. Spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. You can book yourself on more than one workshop or event.

Online employability workshops with Ealing Connexions

Workshop 1: Training, education and apprenticeships – what’s right for you

Date

Time: 2-3.30pm

This workshop is aimed at anyone who is moving between work, training, and education or are just unsure what the right path is for them.

Topics covered in the workshop:

  • Career choices for post 16 years olds – what’s the right choice for you?
  • Apprenticeship opportunities
  • Employment options
  • College or university and the qualifications needed
  • The online resources available to help your search and how to use the

Workshop 2: CVs, personal statements and application forms: how to make yourself stand out from the crowd

Due to technical difficulties, the date for this workshop has moved from Wednesday 5 August to Friday 7 August 11am-12.30pm.

This is for anyone who is looking for advice and support on how to present your CV and to make it stand out to potential employees, plus the dos and don’ts when completing application forms.

  • How to find and apply for vacancy’s
  • How to put together a winning CV
  • How to write a stand-out personal statement.

Workshop 3: The best job search resources and how to build a professional online profile

Date: Wednesday 12 August 2020
Time: 2-3.30 pm

If you need some extra support to help you find and use the best online resources to support your job search, look no further. This workshop offers advice and guidance on all available resources, as well as helping you to understand social media and the importance of building your network.

Topics covered in the workshop:

  • The best online resources to help with your job search
  • Identifying specific social media platforms and how they can help your job search
  • Understanding the importance of a professional social media profile
  • How to create and enhance your social media profile
  • Exploring online networking options and how to develop them

Workshop: Interview tips: how to make a great impression

Date: Wednesday 19 August
Time: 2- 3.30pm

If the thought of an interview makes you nervous, before you even started filling in the application form – this workshop is for you. It covers everything from tips and ideas to keep you focused, with mock interviews to show you how it should and shouldn’t be done.  

Topics covered in the workshop:

  • How to ace a virtual interview
  • General tips and interview preparation
  • Mock interview questions and practice
  • Support with identifying personal examples to answer competency-based questions
  • Understanding how to respond to behavioural-based interview questions by discussing the specific situation, task, action, and result of the situation you are describing. Known as the STAR method.

Network Event – working in construction

Date: Monday 10 August 2020
Time: 11am-12pm

This networking event will be facilitated by our Apprenticeship and Skills Project Coordinator, Neda Haghshenas

We’re working with our repairs and maintenance contractors ENGIE and Chas West on a virtual careers and networking event where they’ll be sharing career insights, life lessons and tips to motivate and inspire you to make informed decisions about your future

During the event you will have an opportunity to network with industry professionals, learn about the range of careers in construction industry and meet some of the apprentices who’re employed by our contractors.

Network event – working in the housing sector

Date: Monday 17 August 2020
Time: 11am-12.30

This networking event offers an insight into working in the housing sector. It will include a presentation from our Director of Community Investment, Sahil Khan, as well as the opportunity discuss personal accounts with our Employment Support Manager and members of the Learning and Development team.

  • The relevant qualifications and skills required

Who can take part?

All our workshops and events are for young people aged 15-25 years old.
