Helping you save energy this winter

With many of us still being at home for longer periods during the day and with the winter months approaching, it’s a good time to think about how we can save on our energy bills and be a little more sustainable too.

The government offers various support and initiatives that could help you save money over the coming months.

Government initiatives to help you save this winter

Cold Weather Payment: You could be entitled to the Cold Weather Payment if you’re getting certain benefits or support for mortgage interest.

This Government scheme runs from 1 November 2020 – 31 March 2021. You’ll get a £25 payment, if the average temperature in your area is recorded as zero degrees or below over seven consecutive days.

Winter Fuel Payment: If you were born on or before 5 October 1954 you could get between £100 and £300 to help you pay your heating bills. This is known as a Winter Fuel Payment.

Warm Home Discount Scheme: You could get £140 off your electricity bill for winter 2020 – 2021, under the Warm Home Discount Scheme.

This is a a one-time discount on your electricity bill, between September and March, paid directly to your energy company.

Help towards the cost of your water bill: Many water companies have  introduced social tariffs that can offer reduced bills to customers on low incomes. Turn2us  has lots of information on the different schemes available.

How we can help

Home energy inspections: All visits are currently suspended due to Covid-19. However, Green Doctor are offering online video advice and phone calls to help all customers save energy, and therefore money, in your home. Find out more here
