Catalyst welcomed British award-winning music and media entrepreneur and founder of SBTV, Jamal Edwards MBE and CBBC Newsround to an event at our Friary Park community centre earlier this year.
The ‘Step it Up’ event was held to discover more about Delve, a grassroots youth project created by former Friary Park resident Jamal Edwards, in collaboration with Catalyst and the London Borough of Ealing.
Delve have been working with Catalyst to provide workshops spanning across various themes including art and film, music, gaming, health and fitness, mental health and wellbeing, money management and many more skills and activities. Since the project began in June 2019, the events have attracted over 150 people.
Our Gateway team provided information on employment to those aged 16+ from the local community. External providers were there, such as West London University, Google Apprenticeships, Twinning Enterprise and Chas West Apprenticeship Recruitment. Over 41 people attended this event, with 11 separate expressions of interest in following up opportunities.
CBBC producers and camera crew interviewed Jamal and other residents, to explore how the project will help young people in their journey to achieving their goals, as well as providing one to one guidance to them and their families through coaching and mentoring. You can watch the videos online here.
Other Catalyst community centres that Delve attend are: the youth club at Westcott Park Community Centre, every Wednesday from 6.30-9pm. For 11-21 year olds. The youth club at Leamington Park Community Centre, every Thursday from 6-8pm and the youth project at Friary Park Community Centre, every Friday from 5-9pm.
