With spring just around the corner, many of us are starting to think about longer days and spending more time enjoying the great outdoors. So, we thought this would be a great time to share how our Estates Services team maintains the external grounds and communal gardens on our estates and neighbourhoods.

Here we catch up with Artur, a gardener for our Estate Services team.

What’s a typical day like for you?

Artur: As gardeners, we work in teams of two. Our work consists of litter picking, cutting the grass, trimming the hedges and spraying weeds. So, for example, while I cut the grass, my colleague will litter pick and spray weeds around the estate. Later, while my colleague trims the hedges, I’ll then pack up and use the blower to tidy up.

What helps you manage your time while you’re working?

Artur: I always say, don’t rush into a task. Look around first, plan your work, consult with your colleague to agree on responsibilities, and your job will be unimaginably easier

What do you like best about working for Catalyst?

Artur: All in all, this job is great for me, and I enjoy it a lot. Our managers are very supportive. They always make sure we have the right supplies and equipment and help us if we’re having any difficulties.

Because we’re out and about a lot, some customers can get annoyed with us about things we’re not directly involved with. I always try to help as much as I can. However, if I can’t, I know my manager will support me by speaking with the customers and helping them to the best of their abilities. Having this support means a lot to me.

Doing this job is very enjoyable. Helping customers keep their gardens tidy and well-kept so they can enjoy them for leisure is very rewarding, especially when they thank us for our work.'

Tell us something about your role that customers might not know

Our job can be physically tiring, so it’s nice when a customer sees us and says thanks for the work we do. It feels good – it’s nice to know we’re appreciated.

What do you like most about working at Catalyst?

Since I started working at Catalyst, I’ve learned how to manage my time better and how to be more efficient. Catalyst has also provided lots of additional training such as first aid training and slips, trips and falls training. This has supported me to feel prepared if there was an emergency and increased my awareness of potential hazards and how to prevent accidents.
