Catalyst and Taylor Wimpey have entered into a partnership to build a further 187 affordable homes in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire.

Housing association Catalyst and developer Taylor Wimpey are drawing on their combined experience of building high-quality homes and creating vibrant communities to bring muchneeded affordable new homes to the area.

The planning system has already secured affordable homes as part of the Bidwell West development to the north of the town. However, with the support of Homes England to fund this latest agreement between Catalyst and Taylor Wimpey, a further 187 affordable homes will be provided on the site.

The new homes will consist of 50 flats for affordable rent and 137 two, three and four-bedroom homes for shared ownership. Building starts this year and will be phased over the next four years.

Taylor Wimpey approached Houghton Regis-based Aldwyck Housing Group about the partnership prior to Aldwyck and Catalyst merging last year.

This is the largest land acquisition in this area for the recently-merged Catalyst, and demonstrates their commitment to forging key partnerships to build high quality and genuinely affordable homes to rent or buy.

The new homes at Bidwell West will have excellent accessibility to A5 M1 link road and will be well served by public transport. The wider development will also include schools, shops and a medical centre.

Kirsty Pepper, Managing Director (Counties), said: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Taylor Wimpey to bring this significant and additional number of muchneeded affordable, quality homes to this part of Bedfordshire. With an office and over 300 of our colleagues working from Houghton Regis, the Bidwell West development is especially close to our heart. At Catalyst, we’re committed to delivering 1,300 new homes people love over the next 10 years across London and the counties, and partnerships such as this are invaluable.”

Victor Idowu, Land and Planning Director at Taylor Wimpey South Midlands, said: “We are excited to announce our partnership with Catalyst as this takes us one step closer to delivering affordable housing in Bedfordshire. We would encourage potential homebuyers to visit our website to keep up-to-date with the latest developments.”
