Network and Catalyst embark on shared service for HR

Network Housing Group and Catalyst Housing will enter into a shared service arrangement for HR services with effect from 1 May 2014. The  aim is to improve the quality and value for money of the service at both organisations by pooling the expertise of the two HR teams and filling skills gaps without increasing costs.

This will benefit employees while also supporting wider business gains in customer service and efficiency. The two housing associations have signed a memorandum of understanding as the basis for the arrangement for an initial pilot period of one year.

Network and Catalyst will retain their own locally based HR teams but work closely together to ensure that colleagues receive the best possible service through the cross-fertilisation of skills. Judith Foss, director of people and organisational development at Catalyst Housing, will lead the service across the two organisations. No employees at either Network or Catalyst are being made redundant as a result of this change.

Helen Evans, chief executive at Network Housing Group, said “Value for money and efficiency is not always about cutting costs. It can also be about delivering the best service possible with the resources available. By working with Catalyst we can widen our access to HR resources and different skills. The new shared service will be beneficial for both associations.”

Rod Cahill, chief executive of Catalyst Housing, said  “Both Catalyst and Network feel we have a lot to gain from combining our expertise in this way and maximising what we can achieve with our respective skills. We can learn from each other at the same time as delivering important benefits for our employees and residents.”
