Help us make South Acton the ‘Best Urban Regeneration Project’!
We are delighted to announce that our South Acton regeneration scheme has been shortlisted for the Best Urban Regeneration Project at the First Time Buyer (FTB) Awards 2011. We now need your help with making South Acton an award winning scheme, so please vote for us on the FTB website and you could even win an iPad in the prize draw.
The South Acton estate was made famous for being the original setting of Nelson Mandela House in the popular British sitcom, ‘Only Fools and Horses’. The estate had grown a reputation for crime and dereliction and was in real need of regeneration, it had become a last resort for residents needing housing.
The regeneration has created a benchmark for future developments due to the high quality design, the breaking down of boundaries and the creation of a coherent neighbourhood. By working Ealing Council, we have overcome the poor reputation of the estate, with the shared ownership properties selling in less than 6 months!
The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), who described the scheme as ‘exemplary’, reported that the proportion of existing residents who would prefer to live in the area has risen from 25% at pre-construction to 75% post construction. Regeneration and Renewal magazine also commented on the estate saying ‘they have creating a place that anybody would be glad to live in…’
The regeneration celebrates Catalyst Housing Group’s continuing efforts to provide better homes and better services, so customers can build a better future.
