This project is looking at the relationship between people and the built environment. We hope that the monitoring phases will provide valuable information about how residents can improve the eco-performance of their homes by changing their behaviour.
Apart from manufacturers’ user guides and the standard welcome package provided by Catalyst, new residents were not given any advice about energy use in their homes. Their energy and water consumption will be constantly monitored remotely, together with fuel bill costs.
In year two, we’ll provide training for the residents to help them minimise energy use. We’ll continue to monitor energy and water consumption and energy bills.
This will allow us to evaluate the impact of changes in resident behaviour after ‘energy-efficient’ training.
The data will form part of a review into how we can support Catalyst’s residents to become greener, save energy and reduce fuel costs. We hope that our eco-home residents may also become ‘green champions’ who will speak to other residents about how behavioural changes can reduce running costs in the home.
