150,000 steps towards a healthier community
Thank you to everyone who attended our wellness week at the Friary Park Community Centre in late June.
The week was a great success, with residents and members of the local community coming together to take part in our step challenge and other wellness activities. The total steps throughout the week was a staggering 150,000, with all our participants encouraging each other to walk more throughout the week. Congratulations to Herran, who came first in our step challenge and well done to our runners up Shadi (2nd prize) and Seyi (3rd prize).
One of the many highlights of the week was a wellbeing breakfast where one of our resident volunteers (qualified in various complementary therapies) gave a talk on holistic health and wellbeing.
The week ended on a high with a Sunday fun-day in the community garden. The day bought old and new friends together to enjoy outdoor games and a picnic while helping with the ongoing gardening and planting activities.
If you couldn’t make the wellbeing week, you haven’t missed out. There are still lots of wellbeing activities happening at Friary Park and Westcott Park throughout the summer and beyond.
Yoga sessions (for all abilities and experience) are available throughout the summer, every Saturday from 10-11am. Tai chi, and the QPR games sessions at Friary Park will be taking a short break over the summer, while our children’s activity programme takes place, but they’ll be back in September. However, there is still lots on with our sports and drop-in sessions running at the Westcott Park centre (just a ten minute walk from the Friary Park centre) throughout the summer, as part of the DELVE project.
