Volunteering opportunities with the Unity Centre this summer

Would you like to get more active within your local community but you’re not sure where to start? Why not volunteer and help make a difference to the children and young people taking part in the 2019 Unity Centre summer programme.

Volunteering is a great way to give something back to your local community while helping develop new skills and improve existing experience and knowledge. As a volunteer, you will work closely with young people and workshop professionals to support the delivery of the summer programme. The project offers a range of activities aimed at young people aged 8-14yrs, such as sports, creative arts, media & music workshops.

We will provide all volunteers with free training in first aid, safeguarding and child protection. All volunteers must attend a training day on Wednesday 24 July, from 10am-4.30pm at the Unity Centre. This training day is necessary to support you with your volunteering responsibilities throughout the summer programme.

All volunteers will undertake the following tasks as part of their role:

  • Support workshop facilitators with the delivery of daily workshops. This includes taking notes, getting involved in workshops, grouping of young people and embedding the children’s code of conduct.
  • Support lunchtime cover. Help with setting up the lunch facilities, including setting up tables and chairs and encouraging our younger ones to eat their lunch and drink lots of water.
  • Support with offsite trips. Help project leads with youth trips, ensuring safeguarding at all time.
  • Support with morning youth games and team building. This includes getting involved in a range of sports activities and friendship games.

If this sounds like something you would like to get involved with please contact Michelle Robinson on michelle.robinson@chg.org.uk or 0300 456 2099 to register for the volunteer training day on Wednesday 24 July. The deadline to register as a volunteer is  Thursday 18 July.
