The Healthy Havelock Walk launches

On 6 February, local residents enjoyed the launch of the Havelock Healthy Walks train in Southall. The walk comes from Canal Rivers Trust – a health and wellbeing charity – in partnership with Catalyst, Elemental and Ealing Council.

The project will see a local GP practice prescribe this 1km health walk along the Grand Union Canal to their patients – an initiative known as social prescribing. New signage leading from the Havelock Estate will highlight the route along the waterways leading up to Norwood top Lock on the Hanwell Flight to take the Grand Union down to the Thames.

The launch event ended with an afternoon tea in which attendees met with providers and could sign up to local initiatives including canoeing, gardening, fitness and yoga.

Nicola Wheeler, Havelock Neighbourhood Coordinator said ‘It’s been great for Catalyst to work with a range of like-minded and motivated partners to bring more physical activity opportunities and an introduction to light touch social prescribing to our residents.’
