Our proposed scheme enhancements will ensure that the local community in and around Friary Park will benefit from the large green spaces created, that we can deliver much-needed new genuinely affordable housing, and that our plans have adapted to the new ways we live and use our local area following the pandemic.

By adapting the plans and adding new homes, we are also making sure that we can afford to deliver much needed homes at social rent levels. The current homes on Friary Park are not fit for purpose for our residents and we want to build them the best new homes possible. The scheme enhancements would allow us to build 237 much needed social rent homes, as well as homes for shared ownership and private sale – helping to tackle the UK’s housing crisis.

As well as adding more new homes, the scheme enhancement proposals include a new community square, enhancements to ecology and nature, improvements to the local Green, a new cycle hub, lighting and safety enhancements, a potting shed and edible garden, new creative spaces, new places to relax, plans for community arts and changes to Friary Road.

We have continued to listen to feedback from the community on these proposed plans. We acknowledge the concerns raised by Rupa Huq MP and local residents. As a result, we will be carrying out further consultation via our consultation website. Consultation will be live for two weeks from Monday 25 October. We encourage anyone interested in the plans to take part in the consultation, where they will be able to find out more about the plans and submit any comments they may have.
