This October, our Unity Centre Communities team is working with Claud Adisa Steven to offer a series of online community tutorials about Black History Month.
Claud will be discussing key themes around Black History Month – exploring why it was established and why it continues to be relevant to everyone – whatever your race or ethnicity.
Claud has previously worked with the Unity Centre team to support their summer programme, where he delivered workshops on black history for children and young people.
Each tutorial is being filmed by the centre’s registered personal trainer, Marland Griffin, who also happens to be a bit of a whizz with video equipment too.
Claude will be presenting four, one-hour online pre-recorded sessions – once a week throughout October, where he will pose present topics and questions to think about and discuss.
The first tutorial in the series will provide a general introduction and include:
- The origin and development of Black History Month
- Why black history has been suppressed and distorted throughout history
- The importance of reclaiming black history.
We’ll be hosting the Black History Month tutorials on our YouTube channel. You can find them under – The Unity Centre: Black History Month, community project
The first tutorial in this series is now available for you to watch here.
