He will continue as Catalyst’s CEO until his departure in December. The Catalyst Board has begun the recruitment process and will make an announcement in due course.
Rod first joined Catalyst (then Ealing Family Housing Association) in 1983 as Development Manager, and became the organisation’s CEO in 1992. He has been instrumental in establishing Catalyst as an effective commercial developer of new homes and places, whilst ensuring the organisation remains committed to its core social purpose: using its financial strength and commercial discipline to provide affordable homes for those who need them most, improve neighbourhoods and change lives.
Rod led Ealing Family Housing Association into a merger with Kensington Housing Trust to form Catalyst in 2002 and has championed Catalyst’s estate regeneration programme – at Church End and Roundwood in Brent, Havelock Road in Ealing, Mill Farm in Harrow, Page Road in Hounslow, Dee Park in Reading and Portobello Square in North Kensington.
Rod Cahill said: “It has been my privilege to lead Catalyst for 26 years and to be a member of the Catalyst team since 1983. With my 66th birthday in sight it’s time for me to pass on the baton to someone new. I do so with Catalyst in great shape, with a strong Board, a strong leadership team, a tier of excellent Directors and above all a great set of people committed to the Catalyst cause. This is a time of challenge and opportunity and I believe that we are well placed to grow from strength to strength, providing more and more homes for those who need them most, and creating and maintaining good places to live.”

Throughout his tenure, he has led the organisation with distinction and dedication, and has positioned us as one of the leading place-makers and developers in London and the South East. He has helped build an organisation in which everyone is committed to making a positive difference to the lives of our customers. I am sure I speak for all at Catalyst when I wish him all the very best for his well-deserved retirement”
Catalyst has continued to grow and move into new areas under Mr Cahill’s leadership. Recently, the company announced a joint venture with Galliard Homes for the circa 600 home Wimbledon Stadium development, and was chosen by the Mayor to deliver the 100% affordable Blackhorse Yard scheme in Waltham Forest in partnership with Swan Housing. Catalyst was also listed last month in this year’s Sunday Times ‘100 Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For’, based on the experience of its employees.
