Catalyst has once again won recognition for its commitment to caring for the environment.
We achieved gold status in the SHIFT benchmarking scheme, which analyses the environmental performance of housing associations, including their homes, offices and operations.
Organisations signing up to be assessed by the SHIFT Index commit themselves to being measured against a challenging set of targets for reduced carbon emissions, including energy efficiency, water use and adaptation to climate change.
We were one of the first housing associations to achieve gold status in the SHIFT Accreditation and our performance places us as one of the most environmentally-friendly landlords in the country.
Stephen Edwards, Sustainability Manager, said: “Our gold accreditation is a fantastic accolade for Catalyst and provides us with an independently verified benchmark of our sustainability performance in the housing sector. This accreditation demonstrates our progress across the business and identifies key areas where we can improve upon. This helps us meet the climate emergency challenge and puts us on a clear path to achieving zero carbon and reducing our environmental impact.”
We are now working on a new sustainability strategy for the next five years to improve the design specification and performance for our new homes and establish an ambitious retrofit programme to help our existing properties achieve net-zero carbon emissions.
We will also be looking at supporting our customers to reduce fuel poverty and overall environmental impact, maximising our green spaces, reducing our transport emissions and identifying how we can improve our office recycling rates and reduce our resource and energy consumption.
