Catalyst has achieved national recognition for its work and commitment to reduce the environmental impact of its business.

We received a Gold Award in the SHIFT (Sustainable Homes Index for Tomorrow) accreditation scheme, which provides an independent assessment of how housing organisations are performing against challenging environmental targets.

The SHIFT assessment looked at the 34,000 homes we manage, as well as our offices, and measured them against 22 environmental factors including carbon dioxide emissions, landfill waste generated, and water use.

Key highlights from the SHIFT report show:

  • Our CO2 emissions of our offices reduced by 30 per cent
  • Water usage in our offices has reduced by 38 per cent
  • The efficiency of our communal heating schemes performed well, with a score that was just 10% behind the best performer and around 40% better than the SHIFT average.

Stephen Edwards, our Sustainability Manager, said: “This is a fantastic achievement that confirms Catalyst’s reputation as a leading sustainable housing association, having now achieved the SHIFT gold standard since 2012. I would like to thank all Catalyst colleagues for their ongoing efforts in improving the sustainability of the organisation. This result sets a strong foundation for our environmental performance as we implement our new Sustainability Strategy up to 2025.”
