Rachel Yankey visits the People’s Project in Brent.

On the 21 August a group of lucky young people were given the chance to meet and train with Arsenal ladies captain and Team GB Olympian, Rachel Yankey MBE along with her coaches.

This was part of the People’s Project which is based at the Unity Centre in Brent. The People’s Project provides a number of activities to help young people stay active and continue to learn during the summer. Activities as part of the project included table tennis, sprinting, drama classes, music workshops and hairdressing workshops. A group of young people were also tasked with running a tuck shop. So far they have made a profit of £200 and expect to make even more next week as the People’s Project comes to a close.

In total over 130 local residents have taken part in this scheme.

Rachel Yankey said:

‘It’s invaluable what happens at the Unity Centre. The opportunities for local people are fantastic. But for the work to continue, we need the whole community to come together and support the work of the Unity Centre’.
