Catalyst and TOKKO take to the STREETZ
The ‘TOKKO STREETZ’ 10 week pilot project invites young people between the ages of 13 to 19 living in the Coverly Court and Someries Hill (Luton) to participate in a street art light graffiti project with TOKKO’s outreach youth workers.
Young people will be able to be creative and have fun without damaging the environment by producing light graffiti; which can be created in all weathers and has stunning results in the dark. Their artwork will be filmed and then exhibited locally through a multi-media exhibition creating a sense of pride and achievement.
Youth participants will also receive a free 12 month membership funded by Catalyst to TOKKO Youth Space to ensure a safe space and positive activities are available including during evenings and weekend.
The youth workers will meet the young people at the entrance to Coverly Court on Fridays from 6-8pm they just need to wrap up warm.
Ines Kretzschmar, Community Investment Coordinator at Catalyst said: ‘Catalyst Housing has 750 properties in Luton and as a social housing provider we are excited to work in partnership with the amazing and innovative team at TOKKO. The partnership outreach project supports Catalyst children and young people to tap into local youth opportunities, come together and have fun. They’ll learn new skills and at the same time increase confidence and gain a voice in their communities. It’s Catalyst’s community investment work at its best and we are proud to deliver it in Luton.‘
Hazel Mellon, Youth Space Business Manager from TOKKO Youth Space added: “We are thrilled to be working with Catalyst Housing on this unique pilot project to show youth culture in a positive light and increase the positive visibility of young people and their voice in their communities. The STREETZ light graffiti project is innovative and exciting and we can’t wait to see the results and exhibit the work on our digital signage in the New Year.’
