Third award for Wornington Green’s community garden
Wornington Green’s Community Kitchen Garden has been recognised for the third year running in the London in Bloom and Royal Horticulture Society’s ‘It’s your Neighbourhood’ awards, this year achieving a highly sought after and hard to achieve level 4 award.
Our community garden had received a level 3 award for the last two years, and achieving the level 4 award marks significant progress and success. Level 4 is one level below the highest level achievable, and is awarded for gardens that are thriving and bearing fruit.
The garden includes a communal herb garden and has twenty plots featuring an increased variety of fruits and vegetables, four of which remain to be allocated to further residents in Wornington Green with a love of greenery. We also continue to provide regular garden events and workshops facilitated by Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s community kitchen gardeners, which teach residents useful skills, such as how to make chutneys and jams from the growing food and how to maintain the garden.
Patricia Poorman, our Partnership & Outreach Officer said: “Winning the award for the third time running is the result of the enthusiasm, hard work and passion of our residents in maintaining and developing the garden, alongside continuing support from staff at Catalyst and our helpful partners the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. We are very proud and excited to gain a level 4 and be recognised for our high standards, and look forward to welcoming more keen gardeners in the community and achieving a level 5 in the very near future!”
