Catalyst collects over a tonne for Tesco food bank drive

Catalyst recently collected over a tonne – 1,046.96kg to be exact – worth of food at Tesco’s Food Bank Drive.

Our teams headed down to Tesco’s store in Perivale, West London, to ask shoppers to dig a little bit deeper into their pockets and donate something to the food bank. Some people donated a lot whereas others could only afford to give a little amount but as they say ‘every little helps’.

During the day, team members also weighed and packed the donated food. They finished off the day by loading it onto vans so the food could be dropped off to the people who need it most. All the food Catalyst collected will be donated to the food bank at Hanwell Community Centre.

Tesco will also top up 30% of the monetary value of the donated goods. They will give £1.80 for every kg of donated goods. As Catalyst collected 1,046.96kgs, Tesco will give £565.39 (cash) to the food bank which they can spend on anything.

13 million people in the UK are living in poverty, deprived of basic needs such as food. Every day people go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill. We hope our team’s hard work goes a little way in supporting people living on the breadline.
