Leys Festival wows crowds

Leys drawingThousands of Oxford residents flocked to Blackbird Leys Park on Saturday 6 September to enjoy live music, cheerleading, street dance and sumo-wrestling at the Leys Festival.

And Catalyst is not an organisation which wouldn’t join in the fun. We teamed up with GreenSquare (another social landlord) to hold a stall about Thrifty Money Saving ideas. People also got the chance to guess the price difference between branded and non-branded food, have their nails decorated, learn how to make loom bands and enjoy a piece of Jaffa Cake. We even had a caricature artist on hand to draw those brave enough to pose for him.

The festival also included the launch of a new £430,000 sports pavilion which was opened by Oxford East MP Andrew Smith. Around 250 young footballers will be able to use the new facility, which the coaches hope will attract more budding players including young women.

Catalyst worked with local residents, other social landlords and many community groups to help organise the Leys Festival. By showcasing all the activities and services available to people, local organisations hope more people will take part in them.
