Over 200 jobseekers joined Catalyst Gateway and Ealing Job Centre Plus for a free employment, training and advice fair at the Employment and Skills centre in West Ealing.

Over twenty five employers and training providers offered information and advice. This gave jobseekers the perfect opportunity to meet a breadth of local employers from Heathrow Academy to smaller local businesses like Silva Ltd. which run a number of restaurant and property services.

Neill Hastick had been unemployed for some time. Through the Catalyst Gateway Employment and Skills Centre he received one on one support to improve his CV and to gain the interview skills he needed. Catalyst Gateway then introduced to Silva Ltd. and taken on for a 30 hour work placement as a painter and decorator, he now works full-time for the company.

‘Catalyst Gateway have helped me quite a bit, when I first came in I saw an advisor and he helped me a lot with my CV, since then I’ve had five interviews. This was a big confidence boost for me, it showed that people were now paying attention to my applications thanks to Gateway’s help.

The main thing I want from Catalyst is to get out of unemployment and back into work. I don’t mind doing temporary work or volunteering because once you get your foot in the door, you can move up.  Catalyst Gateway gave me this opportunity with Silva in the first place and now I have got some more work with them.’

Kerry Starling, head of employment and skills said:

‘Despite the stereotypical view of Ealing as a leafy London suburb, the borough has some of the country’s most income deprived wards. It is vital that we give support to those that need it.

‘At the Catalyst Gateway Employment and Skills Centre we help people find work and get the training and support they need to get a job. We can help with CV writing, interview skills and confidence-building training. We also offer 1-to-1 job search sessions, work experience opportunities and apprenticeships.’
