Looks like Halloween celebrations came early for residents of the Blackbird Leys estate, Oxford on June 3. We’re not talking adults in vampire attire knocking on your door but a day of scarecrow inspired fundraising and creativity.
The idea for the fundraising event came as the estate’s Holy Family Church in Cuddeston looked for an artistic outlet to help raise money for a new church roof.
Residents fashioned a scarecrow in their chosen style to go on a lively parade to the church on 26 June where the crowning of the best scarecrow will round off the event.
More than 18 scarecrows were made on June 3 at the event organised by Catalyst Housing, A2 Dominion Housing and Oxford Citizens Housing Association.
