Hawking’s House, St Albans
The site is located to the south of Valley Road in St Albans, Hertfordshire, and was previously used for sheltered housing. St Albans City and District Council transferred ownership of the site to us in 2017 as it had reached the end of its life.
We named the new block ‘Hawking’s House’ to honour renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking who spent some of his schooldays in St Albans.
The site is 100% social rent comprising of 28 units including seven one-bedroom flats and 21 two-bedroom flats.
To encourage residents to use sustainable methods of transport, the block includes secure bicycle storage racks and charging points for electric vehicles.
The site has fantastic links to local commuter routes and is within close proximity to the city centre and train station.
