Catalyst Housing has received over £500,000 in funding from the Mayor of London to support a partnership project on its estate regeneration scheme at Havelock, Ealing.
The Mayor’s ‘Good Growth Fund’ is contributing 50% of total cost for the project ‘Open Havelock’, which will transform 36 redundant garages and 2000 sqm of unused space on the Havelock estate in Southall. It will help Catalyst create a range of meanwhile-use projects that deliver community benefit while the estate regeneration is carried out. Initiatives include creating a base for The Sharks Canoe Club, an environmental improvement hub, a children’s secret garden, and a mobile canteen.
Open Havelock is run in partnership with Catalyst and London Borough of Ealing, along with Canal & River Trust, The Sharks Canoe Club and Westplay Play Association.
The Good Growth Fund is the Mayor of London’s biggest regeneration fund and is delivered through the London Economic Action Partnership (LEAP). Launched in June 2017, it provides more than £75 million of capital funding from sources including the Local Growth Fund and European Social Fund, as well as expert regeneration advice, design support and knowledge sharing.

This funding is crucial for Catalyst to be able to turn an unused area of the Havelock estate in to a destination with real community focus. Work began on the estate in 2014, with the first phase nearing completion having delivered 291 homes (144 social rent, 8 shared ownership, 131 private sale and 8 fixed equity). Once complete, the regeneration will create an exciting, mixed tenure neighbourhood in the heart of Southall.
