TrainingThe Centre has developed a number of training programmes which aim to help people develop skills to enter the employment market or take up more advanced training opportunities. English as a second language is taught at both sites. Some of our users have found work after learning English and many others have gone on to further studies. For others, particularly refugees, learning English has helped them to access other facilities in the community which they would otherwise not be able to. Our sewing and dressmaking classes continue to prove popular, with an average of 60 women each day attending. A qualified dressmaking teacher provides training and advice to members and teaches them tailoring skills. And while mum is busy learning new skills, the children can play in the crèche, which is open every day and run by a member of staff and volunteers. Using a computer for the first time can be daunting. It is even more difficult if it is in a new language or an unfamiliar place. We have been offering computer courses since 1996. Our courses are funded through the European Social Fund and run every morning and afternoon. |
