Home insurance

We realise that home contents insurance may be the last thing on your mind. But if you have no home contents insurance, you could end up paying out thousands

As your landlord, we are responsible for insuring the building you live in including the outer walls, roof and communal areas.

This means the structure of your home will be covered if there are major incidents or disasters such as fires, storms, floods, leaking water tanks or gas explosions. The cost of the building insurance is shared between all residents and recovered from leaseholders through their service charge.

We do not provide insurance cover for your home contents, personal possessions or valuables. So if your belongings, furniture or decorations are damaged because of an incident or disaster, you will have to pay the costs of this yourself.

Home contents insurance is a way of protecting your belongings against events such as fire, being burgled or burst pipes. If this happens, the insurer will pay out an agreed amount or an amount appropriate to the damage caused. You can then use this money to replace the items destroyed, damaged or stolen.

We can recommend home contents insurance which will cover you against damage to your belongings. Depending on the type of policy you take out, it should also cover certain items stolen in a break-in.

We offer all Catalyst residents, cheaper home contents insurance through Aviva. For more details, collect a leaflet from your local office.
