Easter fun for young people at Havelock

Over 100 young people came to the Catalyst Easter fun day at Havelock on Wednesday 12 April, where we took the opportunity to find out what type of services for children and young people they would like to see in their area.

Everyone who attended had a lot to say – most people told us that more provision for children and young people is a real priority for the community.

The first part of the afternoon was dedicated to children and young teenagers, while an evening session from 5pm to 8pm catered for young people aged 14-25. The event was a wonderful opportunity to listen to residents tell us about their experiences living in Havelock, and make suggestions for improvements they would like to see.

There was also plenty of Easter holiday fun to be had on the day. There were activities to suit everyone, from multi sports to drama and lyric writing. Young people also got eco friendly with taster workshops on upcycling, and London Borough of Ealing (LBE) Park Rangers helped children create bird boxes and mini-beast hotels. In the evening personal trainers and mentors, MEM, ran fitness sessions, while local charity Youth Urban Arts Foundation (YUAF) provided a music production bus and graffiti workshop. Delicious barbecue wraps for lunch were provided by Jax Catering. Our partners on the day included:

• Queens Park Rangers Football Club – multi sports activities
• LBE Park Rangers – Bird Box making and mini beast hotels
• Toyah – Arts and crafts
• Skipz Productions – drama/lyric writing taster workshop
• Westside radio – taster sessions and PA system
• MEM – fitness taster (16+)
• YUAF – media bus (16+)
• Goldfinger Factory – upcycling taster workshop

As well as a wonderful day out, Catalyst received some great feedback from young people on what they’d like to see more of at Havelock, and the things they’d like support with. We’re looking forward to delivering more activities in the neighbourhood soon!
