Eurostar’s Richard Brown appointed Chair of Catalyst Housing

Richard Brown has been confirmed as the new chair of Catalyst Housing. The current chair, Dame Mavis McDonald DCB, will be stepping down after 6 years in the post – one more than normal so that she could lead Catalyst through the transition from a group of housing associations into one, a process which will be completed in September.

Richard Brown, chair of Eurostar International, will then take the helm of an organisation that has, under Mavis McDonald’s leadership, gone from strength to strength – a combined stock of more than 20,000 homes, a development pipeline of another 3,500, a very strong financial position, and excellent relationships with its customers and its key local authority partners.

Richard has had more than 30 years experience in transport, spending 8 years as Eurostar chief executive before becoming chair. He brings with him extensive chairing experience with a strong focus on employees, customers and change management. He was awarded the CBE in 2007 for services to transport and has been involved in a range of economic development and regeneration programmes in Derbyshire.

Mavis McDonald said “I have enjoyed my time immensely at Catalyst and I am proud that at it demonstrates the strength of housing associations – quality housing and services rooted in real engagement with residents. I am also proud of its record in neighbourhood regeneration.”

Commenting on his appointment, Richard Brown said: “I am fortunate and delighted to be chairing a housing association that is in such good shape to face the huge challenges presented by the government’s new housing and investment policies. I look forward to working with a great team of board members and executives to continue Catalyst’s record of success”.
