South Acton regeneration receives top award

A £24 million phase of the South Acton Estate regeneration in West London has won the prestigious Best Urban Regeneration award at the 2011 First Time Buyers Magazine awards.

The estate – famously filmed as the fictional home of the Trotters in Only Fools and Horses, is being revitalised as part of a 15 year commitment to the area by Ealing Council. Catalyst Housing Group is carrying out the first two phases of this regeneration project.

The regeneration is transforming a tired post-war estate into a place where people actively want to live, rather than being a destination of last resort. Phase 2 of the regeneration replaces four dated residential blocks and garages with 254 brand new affordable homes, including 41 shared ownership properties which are being launched to the public on 16 April 2011.

In addition to the physical regeneration of the area, Catalyst was recognised for the work it is doing with Ealing Council to facilitate community regeneration.

This is through a variety of initiatives including access to employment, after school clubs, training and personal development, plus the sponsorship of local youth football team – Bollo United.

CHG Chief Executive Rod Cahill said:

“Regeneration is about more than just new buildings, and I’m delighted the hard work we’re doing with the local community has helped us win this prestigious award. This is also testament to the great work of our partners, Ealing Council, constructors Willmott Dixon and PRP Architects, without whom this award wouldn’t have been possible.”

Councillor Hitesh Trainor, Ealing Council said:

“In Acton and across Ealing we are committed to an estate regeneration programme that will increase the supply of new, high quality affordable housing including social rented homes and support our communities to improve their lives and environments around them. I am therefore delighted that our plans for South Acton have been acknowledged with this award, and thank all our partners and residents who are contributing so much to its ongoing success.”
