Kennet Walk

Kennet Walk is a major regeneration scheme on a contaminated ex-Gas Board site in Reading, enabled through Single Regeneration Budget funding.

Kennet Walk has now been approved as a Housing Forum Demonstration Project, our second approved project after Wilton Road. As a result of this we will be undertaking detailed monitoring of key performance indicators, in partnership with our contractors, Gleesons, to show how we are improving build quality and addressing sustainability issues.

Key features of the Kennet Walk scheme include:

  • major decontamination works, including bio-remediation treatment
  • timber frame construction
  • passive solar systems
  • passive stack ventilation systems
  • water saving methods, such as low flush WCs, aerators, etc.
  • grey water recycling system for raised communal planting
  • enhancement of ecological attributes of the site, adjacent to canal side
  • public access through site, by riverside walkway and new footbridge linking site to East Reading and local schools, shops, etc.
  • community facilities, including a crèche, meeting rooms, play areas and basketball court.
