Resolving neighbour disputes

One of the main factors affecting people's satisfaction with their homes is neighbour nuisance. Catalyst Communities has recently published a good practice guide on resolving neighbour disputes. The guide was developed following over a year's research, by trained mediators and housing management practitioners including tenant participation staff. The research was funded through a Housing Corporation (South East Region) Innovation and Good Practice Grant.

The guide has been produced by housing practitioners for housing practitioners, and will be of benefit to all agencies dealing with neighbour disputes. Subjects covered include:

  • Case studies
  • Relevant Legislation
  • Partnership models with other agencies
  • Exploring alternative styles of mediation
  • Do-it-yourself injunctions

The recommendations it makes are drawn from practical experience of working with tenants in a range of housing environments. The Good Practice Guide incorporates feedback and views expressed by tenants.

The report was published in December 1999, and a copy of the full report can be downloaded below.
