Community Development Initiative

Children playing a game on the Community DevelopmentOur young residents play a really important part in their community. We believe that we have a responsibility to help them develop into positive, upstanding citizens. Our Group members run or support a multitude of projects to help children and young people to tap into new interests, develop their talents, or simply celebrate their youth.

Catalyst Communities Housing Association is a proud partner of the Community Development Initiative (CDI) for residents in Greater Leys, Oxford. The scheme provides local children and young people with a wide range of activities out of school hours – from computing to cooking, DJ-ing to dancing, spray-painting to sport.

Having attended CDI throughout her youth, 20-year-old Sinnita Williams now works at CDI on a sessional basis. “I really enjoyed CDI when I was younger and I didn't want to leave it. There are so many activities here – something for everyone,” she enthuses. “I think it’s important to have this as there’s not much else to do around here apart from hang around on the streets. It’s a place where you can mix with other people from different backgrounds. My two sisters and two brothers come along here as well. They think it’s brilliant.”
