Eligibility
Am I eligible?
In simple terms if you are finding it difficult to get on to the property ladder you should investigate further as there is a good chance that you could be eligible to benefit from the initiative.
The government has prioritised the following four groups for assistance under the initiative:
- First Time Buyers.
- Key Workers – Key Worker status is defined by Government policy and includes a wide selection of categories within the following sectors i.e. health, education, police services, fire services, MOD. A full list of eligible individuals can be found on the Housing Corporations website. However, you may find it easier to phone our HomeBuy Team on 0845 601 7729 and ask directly. Alternatively, you can also email us on homebuy@chg.org.uk.
- Council & Housing Association Tenants.
- Other Priority Groups – The Regional Housing Board has identified a number of additional groups that they have identified as eligible. This includes those that may be experiencing a major change in circumstances such as:
- over crowding in an existing property due to a new family addition
- a forced sale e.g. divorce/separation
- a requirement to care for a sick relative.
Other eligibility considerations
In most circumstances you must not have been in rent arrears over the last 12 months. Due to standard mortgage evaluation checks it is likely that individuals with low credit ratings will be unable to proceed. You are required to certify that the information that you provide is complete and accurate.
