What are my options for moving to a different home? There may come a time when you wish to move to a new home. This booklet explains your options. Some options depend on where you live and what your tenancy agreement says. Options may include:
If you have rent arrears or we are taking legal action against you, you probably won’t be offered an alternative property. We may offer you an alternative home after you have paid your arrears. What do I need to do when ending my tenancy?Your tenancy doesn’t automatically end when you move out of your property. Your tenancy is a legal agreement and can be ended only by you giving us proper notice or by a court order. Before you decide to leave your home, please speak to your local office to discuss all your options. If you aren’t moving to another housing association or council property you must give us at least 28 days’ notice that you intend to move out. If you don’t do this, you will still be responsible for the rent after you leave until this period has expired. If there are special circumstances that stop you giving us the required notice, please speak to your neighbourhood manager. We waive the 28 days’ notice if you transfer through the choice-based lettings system.
