Compensation

We aim to provide good-quality housing, services and amenities but sometimes things can go wrong. When this happens, we want to put them right and occasionally we will pay compensation. This leaflet explains when you may be entitled to compensation and how to claim it.

When do we pay compensation?
  • If we fail to do repairs (right-to-repair scheme).
  • If we miss an appointment.
  • If you lose the use of rooms.
  • If we damage your belongings by being negligent.
  • If we use your electricity to do work in your home.
  • If you improve your home.
  • If we uphold your complaint.
  • If you must move home while we do major repairs or redevelop your home.
Disturbance payments

We give the disturbance payment to cover expenses you incur if we ask you to move because we must redevelop or improve your home.

You may be entitled to a disturbance payment if:

  • we are redeveloping or improving your home, and
  • we need you to move out permanently so the work can take place, and
  • you show us you are in lawful possession when the work starts (a lodger can also claim a disturbance payment if they qualify), and
  • you lived in the property immediately before the work started.
How to claim compensation

You must claim compensation in writing. This helps us collect the most relevant information and so deal with your claim quickly and efficiently.

If you need help completing the compensation, home loss or disturbance forms, you can ask a member of our staff for help.
