Palliative Care

Acton Care Centre has over the last two and half years, sought to improve our understanding and care of elderly patients suffering from advanced and terminal illness. We have recently increased the number of palliative care beds available to twenty. We are not a hospice but we seek to complement the services offered by them. We offer a spectrum of inpatient care facilities that reflects the needs of patients and their families at the time they seek our help.

The Westerly Unit -  High Dependency

Intensive clinical support which may include complex equipment is provided within this fifteen-bedded unit. There are four designated rooms for Tracheostomy Patients.

The Park Unit – Medium to High Dependency

A more social and lively atmosphere is enjoyed by the patients on this unit.

The Oaks Unit – Small designated unit

This separate 10 bedded wing offers personal and peaceful privacy.

All units, are managed by a Senior Nurse, who leads a team of experienced and updated nurses, nursing students and health care assistants. In-house physiotherapy and counselling are available.

Our Chaplain visits regularly and there is a multi-faith centre for quiet reflection. We are ably supported by external health professionals, including Macmillan Nurses, dieticians and speech therapists.
